A 42-year-old New Rochelle man is facing a misdemeanor charge following a Carmel businessman's complaint, police say.
The launched an investigation in February after receiving the report. In it, the complainant said he received "numerous annoying and alarming telephone calls and text messages, many of them threatening in nature, on his cellular telephone," according to a statement released Monday.
Investigator James Babcock took the lead on the case. The information he developed led to New Rochelle resident Salvatore A. Calautti, authorities said. Calautti reportedly surrendered himself to police after they contacted him.
Officials charged Calautti with second-degree aggravated harassment, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned before Kent Town Justice Peter Collins on behalf of the Carmel Justice Court, and then released without bail.
Collins issued an order of protect prohibiting the defendant from having any further contact with the complainant. Police did not release details on the nature of the relationship between the two.
Calautti is due to appear in Carmel Justice Court Aug. 14.
