New Rochelle Man Charged with DWI in Port Chester

24-year-old stopped on North Main Street for speeding.

A 24-year-old New Rochelle man was charged with drunken driving after he was stopped for speeding on North Main Street in Port Chester, according to Port Chester police.

Carlos Diaz-Alegria of 15 Stonelea Place, New Rochelle, was spotted speeding at 2:12 a.m. on Sunday and a Port Chester police officer who followed him saw him go through a red light and cross double-yellow pavement markings, police said.

The Toyota driven by Diaz-Alegria pulled into a commuter lot and the car was stopped by a village officer. However, police said the Toyota backed up and started moving toward the officer's police car.

The Toyota stopped in time to avoid hitting the police car.

Police said Diaz-Alegria appeared intoxicated when he was questioned by police, who also found that Diaz-Alegria does not have a driver's license. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and aggravated DWI for not having a license.

The driver was also cited for numerous traffic violations, police said. He faces a hearing in Port Chester Village Court.
