10:50 a.m., Jan. 11, 2013: The New Rochelle Public Library announced it would be closing its main facility at Library Green at noon Friday because of lack of water. The Huguenot Children's Library on North Avenue has water and will remain open until 5 p.m.
United water is dealing with three water main breaks in our area right now. The breaks are in the vicinity of Webster Avenue and Norman Road and Cedar and Huguenot streets in New Rochelle and Alta Drive in Eastchester. In New Rochelle, the underpass at Cedar Street, near the I-95 Exit 16, is where the flooding is occurring. The entire area is blocked off.
United Water officials say that they started getting calls about all three of the water main breaks around 5:30 a.m. They don't know if the three breaks are connected. And officials don't know how long it will take to fix the three water main breaks.
United Water says there are many residents with low water pressure, discolored water or no water at all.
