Harrison Police Welcomes 5 New Officers

Five new patrolmen were sworn in Friday morning. Each officer will begin police academy training Monday.

The Harrison Police Department received a boost in numbers Friday as five new patrolmen officially joined the department's ranks.

Harrison Mayor/Supervisor Ron Belmont administered the oath of office at town hall in front of the Harrison Town Board, members of the police department and the new officers' families.

"Harrison remains committed to keeping our community safe," said Harrison Mayor/Supervisor Ron Belmont. "This is a terrific group of young men. The police department and our community are fortunate to have them on the force."

John Campo, Anthony Conte, Ronald Olivier, Patrick Varbero and Augusto Corvino, the new officers, will begin training at the police academy Monday. The five will begin working within the Harrison Police Department after graduation.

Your assuming the harrison cops have it rough like the cops in the city. Last time I checked the harrison cops could not find the two bank robbers who ESCAPED ON FOOT! Bottom line is that the cops make more and should pay more towards their benefits.

Hey VERY CONCERNED, You can compare the two postions because they both work for the town of Harrison. Cops alternate working weekends so it's not like they are doomed weekends for the rest of their careers. You seemed to have forgotten the bad winter we had 2 years ago. Also cops do not pull hypodermic needles out of people that job is left to the EMT and besides when was the last time cop in harrison saw a dead body? This is not the Bronx or Mt Vernon so in all fairness the cops in those towns should be making more than the ones in Harrison.

Naomi I agree with you. The Teamsters do not have a glamorous job but it is a job that provides service the town needs. Once again the Teamsters still pay more towards the benefits and make less. The politicians obviously think less of the Teamsters but come NOVEMBER those same politicians will be asking for the Teamsters support.

hey VERY CONCERNED if a Harrison cops job is dangerous than why hasn't that tv shows COPS been filmed here? Hmm? I am not making the cops out to be the bad guys and it's not like something bad happens every time at 2am however that being said the more you make the more you should pay towards the benefits. The top earners in this town worked in the school district and police department.

Hey very concerned, obviously you know the daily routine of this Henry guy which makes me wonder if you are involved with the fire department. Perhaps you might be a paid fireman who resents the fact you take orders from a volunteer!
