Harrison Cop Shoots Suspected Burglar After Traffic Stop

Harrison police issued a statement Thursday morning confirming the shooting, which happened just after 6:40 p.m. Wednesday.

A Harrison police officer shot a suspected burglar during a traffic stop on Westchester Avenue Wednesday night, police have confirmed.

Police were in the process of arresting three men suspected of a Sep. 3 burglary when the officer fired two shots—one of which hit Daniel Dibiase, 55, of Poughquag, Dutchess County, police say.

Dibiase was transported to Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla. His current condition is unknown.

Dibiase was traveling in a Chevrolet Blazer with two other men—Carmine Stanzione (a.k.a. Paul Dibiase), 57, of Poughquag and Jason Foskey, 34, of Stormville. Police stopped them on an Interstate 287 exit to Westchester Avenue in Harrison at about 6:40 p.m.

The three men are accused of stealing more than $500,000 worth of jewelry during the September burglary. Police say they had been monitoring the suspects and pulled them over with the intent of placing them under arrest.

All three are also suspects in another attempted burglary in Harrison as well as numerous similar crimes in Westchester County and other parts of New York, police say.

Stanzione, Foskey and Dibiase have been charged with second-degree burglary and second-degree attempted burglary, both felonies. Stanzione and Foskey were held overnight in police headquarters and are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday. Dibiase is under police guard at Westchester Medical Center, police say.

Harrison Police Chief Anthony Marraccini declined to comment further, citing on on-going investigation. Harrison police requested the Westchester County Department of Public Safety to review the shooting, according to a police statement.

Several Harrison police officers were treated at Greenwich Hospital and released, according to a police statement. Police did not release the nature of their injuries.

Police executed search warrants Wednesday night in the homes of all three men. Stanzione and Dibiase live together and are brothers with a history of arrests for burglary and other crimes, police said.

Check back for updates.

UPDATE: 1:58 p.m.: Carmine Stanzione and Jason Foskey are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday afternoon in Harrison court. We will have updates from court as soon as they are available.

It seemed to me the key point of moving the City Yard from the waterfront was to open up theRead More waterfront and turn that run down and obsolete yard into a public park overlooking Long Island Sound. The westside site was the most cost effective place to move the yard. Not ideal, but no real alternative has been proposed. I don't think this has much to do with racism. All races can enjoy more of the waterfront. Any development around it will add to our tax base

Ms. Aronow, The issue is that an alternative has been suggested, Ward Acres, as it is much largerRead More and strategically beneficial for the City of New Rochelle. I don't think the recent public discussions has resulted in unanimity in terms of the waterfront being an entirely public venue for all races to enjoy.
