Run Mary Run: Mary Jo Jacobs Runs for Westchester County Legislator, District 10

Mary Jo Jacobs from the Glenwood Lake neighborhood in New Rochelle is running for County Legislator of District 10, representing New Rochelle, Eastchester and Tuckahoe. After speaking with her, it seems to me that she has the right experience, motivation and skills to do a good job.

Here’s what I know. When she rolled up her sleeves and jumped into the Webster PTA, it opened her eyes to the educational challenges in our community. But she didn’t stop there. Her own education about how our local government works continued when she joined the city planning committee.

In addition to her experience in public service, Mary Jo will bring her professional background in business to this position. She knows how to manage a budget and streamline it for maximum efficiency. It is this combination of community dedication and common-sense cost savings that excites me about her candidacy.

I asked her why she wanted to represent the people of District 10. Here is what she said:

“I have been inspired by volunteer efforts to improve the community, from the creation of the Huguenot Children’s Library, which started as a grass roots group of parents, to the development of the New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence, which raises money to provide low-cost SAT tutoring for every New Rochelle High School student.”

“It is wonderful to live in a place where people really care about helping each other and making their neighborhoods better. I already knew that about New Rochelle, but I’ve really enjoyed the experience of meeting people in Eastchester and Tuckahoe who are making a difference in their communities.”
