The College of New Rochelle Presents the 2nd Annual Symposium on Mental Health Sponsored by the Graduate School

New Directions in Diagnosis & Treatment: Introducing the DSM-5

The College of New Rochelle will hold a symposium exploring the current research, best practices and innovations in the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders on Saturday, November 16, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Special attention will be given to the latest revision to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5).  This is an opportunity for mental health professionals and students of counseling, psychology and social work to expand their knowledge and repertoire of skills in their work with clients.

The symposium will begin in Maura Ballroom at 8:30 a.m., breakfast and lunch provided and CEUs are available. A keynote presentation with College of New Rochelle professors will kick-off the day, and a panel with special guests will anchor the afternoon. Morning and afternoon workshop sessions will feature both College of New Rochelle and guest experts

The Keynote presentation, “In Conversation with the DSM-5,” will provide a practical approach to understanding the new DSM-5 from a clinician’s perspective.  The College of New Rochelle’s Dr. Susan Conte, Ph.D., LCSW-R, and Diane Spizzirro, MS, LMHC, will discuss the diagnoses of various disorders using case studies to illustrate major transformations between the DSM-IV-TR and the DSM-5.

“Trends in Mental Health Counseling: Educational, Clinical, and Political Implications,” the panel discussion scheduled for later that afternoon, will feature David Hamilton Ph.D., LMSW, ACSW Executive Secretary, Office of the Professions, New York State Education Department, and Judith Ritterman, MS, NCC, CFT, ACS, LMHC, LMFT, Executive Director, New York Mental Health Counselors Association.

Registration fees are $50 for professionals, $35 for students with Non-CNR ID, and $25 for students with Valid CNR ID. Registration is limited and preregistration is necessary.
