Blogs: Sequestration, Slumber Parties

A recap of recent and popular blog posts in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam.

Hudson Valley politicos railing against sequestration isn't a uncommon phenomenon—take Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, for example.

The District 18 lawmaker sounds off this week in his blog, calling the broad, automatic federal cuts shameful, given the local implications.

"Earlier this week, I was home in the Hudson Valley at the United States Military Academy at West Point talking to the cadets there to better understand these arbitrary cuts to that legendary American institution that will happen if we fail to act," he writes.

"West Point has been educating and training our nation’s next generation of military leaders since 1802—it is as old as the nation itself," he adds.

Blogger Bonni Brodnick notes 82-years-old isn't the cut-off for slumber parties—she spent the weekend with her mother and sister, house-bound.

"Mom's apartment, a former classroom in a renovated elementary school, was homey, with lamps gently lit with 40-watt bulbs," she recollects. "My sister's and my visit brought out her 1960s housewife charm as she threw on a red apron with big gingham pockets and set the same table at which we ate most of our meals while growing up."
