Monday Musings

Art and Parmigiana

Local photographer starts our week off right with this beautiful image from along the Bronx River Reservation. You can see more of Jessica’s work here.

For artwork of an entirely different kind, stop by The Store Room Gallery at and check out the new show by John Russo, otherwise known as the graffiti artist “Mr. Comet.” Russo was a subway graffiti artist back in the 1970’s and early 1980’s, but has turned to canvas in recent years.

We checked out the show on Saturday night while waiting for a pickup order from a couple of doors down. The hole-in-the-wall Italian is the kind of place where you don’t mind waiting, because you know the food is going to be worth it. Even after viewing Mr. Comet’s show, the nice staff apologized that our food still wasn’t ready, but rather than being exasperated, we just wanted to say “Take your time, take your time, do it right.” And they did.

We hear that the has postponed its Food and Wine Tasting scheduled for this Wednesday evening. The event will be rescheduled in the fall. In the meantime, you can still check out the  Beaux Arts Finale at the club’s headquarters on Midland Avenue. The show runs through July 28th, and features the winners of seven regional competitions.

Today’s going to be a scorcher – stay cool and have a great week, everyone.
