Letter to the Editor: Latimer Deserves Vote

Mary Jo Jacobs writes that George Latimer is conscientious and should be elected to the State Senate.

In their race for the state senate, Bob Cohen has attacked George Latimer as a tax-and-spender, a characterization that cannot be further from the truth.

Latimer has taken the brave, reasoned and fair stance on this issue—that an Albany-imposed tax cap prevents municipalities from exercising their own best judgment about how to direct their resources. Latimer has instead chosen to take a non-partisan and bold stand with his own personal integrity against the overreaching unfunded Albany mandates because he understands that these burdens too often leave towns in a predicament wherein they must make painful choices about laying off teachers, police officers and fire fighters in order to keep property taxes down.

George Latimer steadfastly supports local autonomy rather than State government tax caps coupled with unfunded mandates that force municipalities to have to be reduced to making a choice between education and safety.

Beyond that, I have met George numerous times over the years at community events—he is a highly visible and caring politician of integrity who is a truly engaged member of our community, and who justifies my faith in the political process.

Please vote for George Latimer!

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
