Sweet Boy, Max....

Max, the super loyal dog!

Meet sweet Max! He has had a long journey since that day somebody decided to dump him and is very deserved of a home to finally call FOREVER.

Max was found tied to a fence up the street from Mount Vernon Animal Shelter where he was immediately brought to safety. A kind hearted volunteer immediately fell in love with him and decided to take him up to Vermont where she thought she could find him a home.

Sadly, the kennel where he was put had a somewhat "loose" policy of turning the dogs out together and there was not much separation between the dogs. Well, Max was so out of sorts from his ordeal and did not enjoy the close proximity to so many other dogs so he was unable to stay there and consequently had to be transported back to Mount Vernon Animal Shelter.

He was carefully professionally evaluated (again) and found to to ZERO red flag issues, although it was noted he did not like dogs coming into his space, which he appropriately communicates and then happily makes eye-contact with his human as if to say, "Let's move on please."

Since back living in a shelter environment, Max spends most of days sleeping in his bed and ignores all the barking that happens directly across from his pen. When we take him to the yard, he will happily play fetch for as long as you want, gently dropping the ball on your lap for more. He has the wonderful sit and lean quality common to many APBT, and bonds very quickly to every human who spends time with him.

He has been around kids over the age of 10 and is gentle and leans in for kisses and hugs with a giant smile on his face. His energy level is mellow, wanting to run and play but is also content just sitting and being loved on. We have seen a decent prey drive with squirrels and cats so know he should be the only pet in the home and will make a wonderful companion for someone with a pretty laid back life as he is so quiet in his kennel all day.

Max sometimes has up to 23 hours day in a kennel with never a jump or bark but with many large breeds, Max cannot remain in kennel life forever and has earned his chance to be the super loyal dog he is meant to be.

If you are interested in knowing more about Max, please contact the trainer at the shelter (and longtime foster mom for WagginTrain) Danicia@mindpspring.com. He is currently in Mount Vernon NY and meet and greets can be scheduled 7 days/week.
