Leg. Maisano Endorsed by New York League of Conservation Voters!

I'm very proud to be endorsed by the New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV), as I've been in all my contested legislator elections.  It's the most important environmental endorsement a candidate can receive in NYS. Since the day I became a County Legislator, I've been committed to protecting the environment and been a leader on issues like creating parkland, saving open space, advocating for clean air and clean water, and speaking out against irresponsible development. At the link is the press release discussing my endorsement from NYLCV:  http://goo.gl/1tw147

Here are some of the highlights of the environmental issues I addressed as County Legislator:

  • 16 year member of the Environment Committee and strong advocate for the creation and preservation of parkland in the City of New Rochelle.
  • Sponsored and pushed through legislation for the County to grant $10 million to rehabilitate City Park in New Rochelle, and the city now has a first class public athletic complex for kids and adults.
  • Stopped the elimination of Flandreau Park in New Rochelle and made sure it was forever protected as dedicated parkland.
  • Passed legislation to create the Library Green, an urban park in downtown New Rochelle.
  • Provided constant supervision of Glen Island Park to ensure it remains one of the County’s flagship parks.
  • Chaired the Long Island Sound Subcommittee of the Environment Committee and took a leadership role on several important Sound related issues, including a public education campaign on ways residents can help reduce non-point source pollution.
  • Saved County Park curator positions and funding for Cornell Cooperative Extension in the past 3 County Budgets.
  • Helped pass County’s Open Space Policy and a strong supporter of the County purchasing and preserving thousands of acres of open space across Westchester, along with the County’s Legacy program for environmental and recreational investments.
  • Supported legislation waiving the County Sales Tax for solar energy installations; mandating that the County only purchase hybrid or environmentally friendly motor vehicles; for healthy air, including bus-idling and low sulfur diesel laws; implementing the Pesticide Notification and Reduction Law; and establishing the Agricultural & Farmland Protection Board and the County’s first Agricultural District.

I look forward to continuing my work on environmental issues in my next term, where I will continue to promote parkland for Davids Island and the creation of a "Westchester Sewer Authority" to consolidate all county and local government sewer lines into one self-contained and better managed system.
