Campaign Intern Meets Misguided Voters

This is a plea for voters to be open-minded, review the candidates and vote for best candidate!

So here is a ridiculous story about something that happened in my re-election campaign last week. I have interns going door to door for me – smart and hard working high school and college kids. A 17-year-old high school girl went to a house and was told the following by a husband, along with his wife, after asking whether I was a Republican or Democrat: “I know Jim – he’s a nice guy but I won’t vote for a Republican. Republicans are all bad people. I hope I’m not offending you.”

What jerks to say this to a high school kid volunteering on her first campaign. How could anyone believe that “Republicans are all bad people?” This current political culture where people are so closed-minded (both Dems & Reps) and only vote for one party line and hate the other is so damaging to our political process. We should be encouraging young people to get involved in politics and campaigns. We are always nice to Democrat volunteers that come to our house. I don’t care what political views you hold, please be respectful of people who take the time to visit your home to discuss a campaign. Thank God we live in a democratic society with free speech and contested elections. And please open up your mind!
