Contrary to Rumor, Ben's Deli Still Hopes to Open Its First Westchester Location in Late Spring or Summer

The rumors that Ben's of Scarsdale wouldn't open until late 2014 were dispelled by Ronald (Ronnie) M. Dragoon, the CEO/founder of Ben's Kosher Deli Restaurants and Caterers on January 21, 2014.

"My best guess is early summer of 2014," he told Patch.

"Optimistically, it could happen late spring," he said.

"We have chosen to upgrade all mechanical systems which is causing the delays," Dragoon explained. "Effectively, we will have a new building as well as a well designed interior."

Dragoon has been "refocusing" at the organization's Boca Raton, Florida restaurant since the first week of December.

The Scarsdale eatery, once renovated, will occupy the building on Central Park Avenue previously the home of Spiga Ristorante. It will be the company's seventh kosher delicatessen; all but Ben's of Boca Raton are located in the metropolitan New York City area (Manhattan, Queens and Long Island).

The new Scarsdale restaurant will be located diagonally across the street from the Greenburgh Fire Department station on Central Park Avenue in Scarsdale.

The first floor of the 5,700 square-foot Ben's of Scarsdale will seat approximately 145 patrons in the restaurant and bar. An 80-seat, party-and-dining room will be constructed on the second level.

Dragoon opened his first deli in Baldwin (now closed) in 1972 at the age of 23. The restaurants are named after his father.
