Bramson Bid for County Exec...an inspiring back story...

Tonight I attended a Democratic Delegate's meeting.Mayor of New Rochelle Noam Bramson put his bid in to be the party's possible candidate.

Tonight I attended a Democratic Delegate's meeting. We were fortunate to hear from one of our potential Democratic candidates running for County Executive of Westchester.  Mayor of New Rochelle Noam Bramson put his bid in to be the party's possible candidate.  He would be running against the incumbent Republican, Rob Astorino, if he gets his party's nod.

Westchester County Executive is the head of the executive branch of the Westchester County government. The county executive has power to veto acts of Westchester County Board of Legislators .

The office of Westchester County Executive was created in 1937 when voters approved a new county charter giving the county an executive branch to complement the County Board of Legislators.

Yes, I wiki-ed that!  I did it for all of us. When I look at that definition it brings home, all the more, why I support my New Rochelle leader and neighbor, Noam Bramson. His vision, as he stated, is to help all residence of Westchester bring out the best of all of us toward achieving our best. As a leader in New Rochelle, he has shown tremendous leadership through compassion and action.  He wants to bring that energy to the County level.  I believe he can do it. Here are some quotes from tonight's remarks...."All of us are better off when our community is healthy.....What matters here, Matters everywhere...We need to budget reform...we need to plan for the future..Too easy to forget the future and the big picture...Sustainability and the Quality of our plan is essential for our future
...a Vital economy is needed to move forward"

For me these are all inspiring thoughts.  We nee to re-invigorate our government, especially at the regional level.  As, was note, "regional government matters."

I believe public service is a noble cause and occupation.  Bramson is proof if that.

He knows what it means to govern a diverse economic and culturally
diverse community.
Smart people listen and that's what he does.

He was brought up in a true American household.  His parents were immigrants who had to flee for their lives from their European birthplace. He knows his and his brothers lives were easier because of their strife.
He was taught to understand the world is a big place and he in his path through life can make the world a better place. He is a leader who inspires others to do the same.  Noam Bramson is honorable and sincere in his pursuit of being the county exec. And although will miss him as our immediate leader here in New Rochelle, if he should win it all, we can feel reassured we will always have him to rely on as an executive leader.

I don't have an opinion about Mr. Bramsom since I don't live in New Rochelle or know his record and this letter doesn't do much to inform. What the writer refers to as "inspiring thoughts" -
"All of us are better off when our community is healthy.....What matters here, Matters everywhere...We need to budget reform...we need to plan for the future..Too easy to forget the future and the big picture...Sustainability and the Quality of our plan is essential for our future"...a Vital economy is needed to move forward" - seems to me nothing more than the kind of political rhetoric that any politician on either side of the aisle would put forth. A little substance would do more to inspire me that this hollow verbiage. Hopefully the writer can put something up to back up this clap-trap.

Noam's theme is borrow, borrow & borrow some more. He's had 2 budgets that went way over the tax cap. He's got big ideas to move the city yard, but plans to borrow all of the money (to the tune of $25 million) and he's got no idea how the city will pay for those bonds. He thinks downtown is so vibrant, he expanded parking meter times to mid-night. He's overseen millions of dollars of tax abatements that have severely stressed city services & put all the financial burden on homeowners. He's calling now for a 2% utility tax and red light cameras. Wants to transfer other city expenses to homeowners, like fire hydrant replacement. He conveniently releases every budget right after the election and there's no planning past the current year. He's plugged 1 bugdet after another w/gimmicks like bonding.
When he proposes cuts to the budget, its always the fire dept & they always get restored. This year he wanted to end curb side leaf pick-up which would've only shifted hundreds of dollars of expens to homeowners. But elimante a sustainablity coordinator? Can't do that. Combine some departments? Can't do that either. All of this might be ok if New Rochelle had streets paved with gold, but take a drive down any street & you feel like your driving on a backwoods road somewhere in the 3rd world. The city maintains nothing that it owns & waits for a hand out to fix anything. He can't figure out what to do with Davids Is either. Last I heard Solar Farm was on the list.

It seemed to me the key point of moving the City Yard from the waterfront was to open up theRead More waterfront and turn that run down and obsolete yard into a public park overlooking Long Island Sound. The westside site was the most cost effective place to move the yard. Not ideal, but no real alternative has been proposed. I don't think this has much to do with racism. All races can enjoy more of the waterfront. Any development around it will add to our tax base

Ms. Aronow, The issue is that an alternative has been suggested, Ward Acres, as it is much largerRead More and strategically beneficial for the City of New Rochelle. I don't think the recent public discussions has resulted in unanimity in terms of the waterfront being an entirely public venue for all races to enjoy.
