Why go: The Voracious Reader hosts Toddler Story Time on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesday at 2 p.m. Stories, coloring and fun around a theme, from puppies to weather to barnyard friends. For ages 18 months to three years.

2. Puppet Play: Where the Wild Things Are

Where/When: , 530 Colonial Ave, Pelham, Wednesday, June 27, 2 p.m. 

Why go: Children will make shadow puppets inspired by the book Maurice Sendak’s book, Where the Wild Things Are. Then we will act out the story. For children 4 - 12. Call the library to sign up: 738-1234.

3. Dibbles to Daisy Exhibit

Where/When: , 895 Shore Rd., Bronx, Wednesday, June 27; Saturday,June 30; and  Sunday, June 31, noon to 4 p.m.

Why go: The exhibit will feature antique garden tools collected by landscapearchitect Mark Morrison. These beautifully crafted and exceptionally useful objects provide a fascinating glimpse into the art of gardening as it has been practiced in Europe and America since the 17th century. Specialized tools such as clod crushers, cucumber straighteners, and wasp catchers are displayed alongside more familiar objects such as dibbles (for planting bulbs) and watering cans, each handmade in practical yet elegant forms that will appeal to all visitors, even those who have never weeded a garden with a daisy grubber. Other dates and times are available. 

Pricing: $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and students, and free for children under 6

Why go: Gangs of blackbeards and beauties will be swashbuckling their way through Philipsburg Manor at this rollicking event brought to you by the team that produces Horseman's Hollow. Musical pirates, gypsy sword dancers, and scallywags of all sorts will roam the grounds, ready to make you smile while secretly stealin’ yer gold. Kids can take part in the Pieces of Eight treasure hunt, wiggle their way into a pirate shipwreck, and learn to speak and act like a bloody pirate.These pillagers are able and exotic fishermen.
