The Battle of Oriskany - Revolutionary Fight and Social Upheaval in the Mohawk Valley
This talk by archaeologist Eugene Boesch concerns the lesser known 1777
Battle of Oriskany near Rome, New York that contributed to the defeat of the
British Army at Saratoga later that year, helping the cause of American
independence. Whether the British or the Americans won the fight is still
debated more than two centuries later. However, the tragic consequences
for those remaining in the Mohawk valley, Native Americans, Americans, and
Loyalists, persisted for decades after the event. Dr.
Boesch is member of the Westchester County Historic Preservation Advisory
Committee and the Putnam County Historic Preservation Advisory Commission. The Renard Active Retirement Lecture
Series welcomes the entire community.
