NRHS Concert Chorale at Alvin & Friends

    It’s a brunch with
purpose: On Sunday, March 23rd Alvin
& Friends welcomes New Rochelle High School’s acclaimed Concert Chorale

as the entertainment for the restaurant’s weekly Sunday Gospel Brunch,

supporting the students’ efforts to raise money for a planned trip to South

Africa. “Having the NRHS Concert Chorale perform at Alvin & Friends is a

win-win for us,” says restaurateur Alvin Clayton. “We get to showcase

outstanding talent while also supporting the group’s trip and New Rochelle High
School.” 

     The New Rochelle High School Chorale, under the direction of Mr. Derrick James and Mr. David Jutt,  has taken their show on the road before, visiting England (where they performed at the 2013 Olympics) and China. This year the group will be traveling to South Africa to perform in unique venues and exchange cultural ideas through music.  The cities on their itinerary are Johannesburg, Soweto, Pretoria, Cape Town and a Safari Tour of Kruger National Park.

     According to
Derrick James, “A tour of South Africa is, for many, a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity,” which he says will “give our students a chance to experience
Africa culture firsthand bringing divergent young people together through the
common interest of music. All of our international trips have been
transformative, especially for those students who have never been outside of
the country and, in many cases, outside of New York!”

     “However,” says James, “due to financial restraints both at home and at school, several of our students are struggling to raise enough funds to go on the trip.” He says the cost of this trip is approximately $4,300 per student. The Concert Chorale is reaching out to ask the community for support; contributions are tax deductible.
