CNR Drama at The College of New Rochelle will present Stephen Sondheim’s hilarious musical comedy A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum from November 9 – November 18, 2012, on the Main Campus of The College of New Rochelle.  Based on a book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart (of M.A.S.H. fame), the musical take on classical Roman comedy is in the tradition of the great comics of vaudeville.  The musical is Sondheim’s earliest hit in which he wrote both music and lyrics, and the score is bright and addictive; the opening number “Comedy Tonight” is emblematic of good times in the theatre.

“Forum” is directed by CNR’s Laurie Castaldo, with musical direction by Kurt Kelley.  Choreography is by CNR graduate student Jessica Bittner, with a big cast of CNR students and local performers.  Among them are New Rochelle residents Scott Zimmerman (Senex), Erica Ackerman (Philia), Peter Ackerman (Marcus Lycus), Marc Wager (Erronius), and Alejandro Funes (Hero).  Rounding out the cast are Nick Masson in the role of Pseudolus, BJ Markus as Hysterium, Patricia Olson as Domina, and Dan Pivovar as Miles Gloriosus.

Performances are at 8:00 p.m. on November 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, and 18.  Matinees are at 2:00 p.m. on November 10, 11, 17, and 18. Ticket prices are $25 general admission; $20 seniors; $15 students. Group rates available.

All performances are in Romita Auditorium at The College of New Rochelle, 29 Castle Place, New Rochelle, NY 10805. Call (914) 654-5373 to reserve your seats now! Or email cnrdrama@cnr.edu. Seating is limited.

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
