What's Open and Closed in New Rochelle Christmas Day

Many businesses will be closed for the holiday.

Christmas Day—Tuesday, Dec. 25— is a federal holiday so government offices, including New Rochelle City Hall will be closed. Major banks will be closed Christmas Day.

The United States Postal Service Web site said that post offices will close early on Christmas Eve, and mail should be put in blue collection boxes by noon if the normal collection time is after 12 p.m. Post offices will be closed Christmas Day.

Many businesses will be closing early Christmas Eve—Monday, Dec. 24—and will remain closed Tuesday. Check with the businesses by phone to make sure. For example, ShopRite of New Rochelle will be open Christmas Eve until 7 p.m., although the pharmacy will close at 6 p.m. The supermarket will be reopen Wednesday, Dec. 26.

If you are looking for a place to eat, be sure to call the restaurant or diner ahead of time.

Movie theaters in the area—including the Regal New Roc Stadium 18—that are open can be found here, along with movies being shown and the times. Les Miserable (2012) and Django Unchained are premiering on Christmas Day.

The New Rochelle Public Library is closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Both branches will reopen Wednesday at 10 a.m.

In New Rochelle, garbage and trash will be collected in the north end as usual on Christmas Eve. There will be no garbage collection on Christmas Day. The south end will have garbage collected on Wednesday. Garbage and paper will be collected Thursday in the north end and Friday in the south end. Collection schedules and information for 2013 will be mailed to households the first week in January. The schedule can be found now on the City's Web site.

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
