Tornado Watch, Severe Thunderstorms

The National Weather Service has issued an advisory for Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties.

A tornado watch is in effect until 11 p.m. A coastal flood advisory has been issued for midnight to 3 a.m. Wednesday.

For the rest of the night, strong and gusty winds—up to 47 mph—should be the biggest hazard expected from a night of rain and thunderstorms.

"If a tornado is spotted...act quickly and move to a place of safety in a sturdy structure, such as a basement or small interior room," the National Weather Service warning states.

The impact: downed power lines, downed trees—and power outages.

Winds this strong can also make driving difficult, particularly for vehicles with high profiles (such as SUVs and trucks), the NWS warns.

"Use extra caution," says the NWS.

The forecast for New Rochelle and Pelham calls for the clouds to move out by midday tomorrow.
