Bites Nearby: Spadaro New York Ristorante

Located off Main Street in downtown New Rochelle Spadaro New York Ristorante is known for its authentic Italian cuisine and extensive wine selection.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, New Rochelle Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out.

Here's this week's choice:

Of the many places in New Rochelle to sit down and enjoy a filling and delightful Italian meal, Spadaro New York Ristorante stands out from the pack, not only because of their family atmosphere, but because of the distinctly unique dining experience that you can enjoy.

Once you are seated at your table, a list of nightly specials is placed before you versus a traditional menu, which offers up special opportunities to not only have a very fresh meal prepared for you each and every night, but also the ability to try an array of dishes that only may be offered the night you are visiting the restaurant.

"I am a big foodie person and this place is the real deal. The food was so good I didn't even care what the bill was. As far as I was concerned it was worth every penny!!!!! Friendly service, cramped space but you will not be disapointed with the food," remarked one happy customer on tripadvisor.com

Another review on activediner.com raved about the food:

"The food is remarkable for its thoughtfully selected authentic Italian ingredients as well as for the skill in its preparation. The rigatoni in tomato sauce with lamb and the farfalle with shrimp and cream sauce are two favorites. One bite of the ricotta cheesecake and you will think you've died and gone to Italian heaven. In fact the first bite of each new dish is generally accompanied by eyes rolling to the back of the head and a delighted sigh."

Everywhere Patch looked it seemed as though there were only positive things to be said for this Ristorante on Main Street.

"OMG, as if a ristorante from Roma had been plopped down in a strip mall in New Rochelle! Don't let the humble exterior fool you - this is some of the best food in Westchester hands down. Get the mixed appetizers, you won't regret it, though you may not have room for anything else," raved a woman on zagat.com.

Reservations are recommended especially on the weekends as the restaurant does fill up fast.

Spadaro is located at 211 Main St., near the corner of Stephenson Boulevard in New Rochelle.

Their hours are 4:30-11:00 p.m. daily, and you can contact them at 914-235-4595 for reservations.

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
