Bites Nearby: Jani Restaurant

Located in the New Roc City retail and entertainment center, Jani is equal parts Chinese restaurant and Japanese steakhouse.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, New Rochelle Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out.

Here's this week's choice:

The next time you find yourself near the retail area, perhaps to catch a movie or to get some shopping done, why not try something different and indulge in some Far East cuisine that will not only leave you stuffed, but also entertained!

Jani Restaurant serves up traditional Hibachi-style dinners, cooked right in front of you.

The restaurant offers house specials such as the "Rocky" which comes with steak and chicken and also the "Ocean Delight" with fresh sea scallops, salmon and shrimp.

If your taste buds are leaning more toward Chinese cuisine, then Jani has you covered as well. All of the usual fare such as roast pork, chicken and lo mein are offered.

If sushi is your thing, again Jani has you covered from a wide selection of traditional or hand rolls to sashimi and Japanese soups and salad dishes.

Prices are moderate, ranging from $10 up but for some of Jani's customers, the food is well worth the price.

This from a satisfied customer on Yelp.com: "Returned to have excellent service yet again and great food. They had a few clay pot specials...we chose the seafood version which came with rice and involved lots of vegetables as well as shrimp, scallops, fish fillets and squid, which was shockingly not rubbery, but just right. The pork lo mein was mighty tasty and not at all greasy—and the pieces of pork in it were nice and lean. You know it's good Chinese food when you look forward to the leftovers!"

Jani Restaurant is located at 33 Lecount Pl. and their hours are as follows: Monday-Thursday—11 a.m.-10 p.m., Friday-Saturday—11 a.m.-11 p.m., Sunday: 12 p.m.-10 p.m.

It seemed to me the key point of moving the City Yard from the waterfront was to open up theRead More waterfront and turn that run down and obsolete yard into a public park overlooking Long Island Sound. The westside site was the most cost effective place to move the yard. Not ideal, but no real alternative has been proposed. I don't think this has much to do with racism. All races can enjoy more of the waterfront. Any development around it will add to our tax base

Ms. Aronow, The issue is that an alternative has been suggested, Ward Acres, as it is much largerRead More and strategically beneficial for the City of New Rochelle. I don't think the recent public discussions has resulted in unanimity in terms of the waterfront being an entirely public venue for all races to enjoy.
