My favorite dog at the Mt

Vernon Animal Shelter is Tyra. She is a fantastic small size pit bull

with a huge personality. She is always happy to see me and lets me know

so! She begins "talking" as soon as she hears my voice (but she's

actually a very quiet dog and never barks once we're away from

the shelter); she really loves to get outside and go!

After just a couple of minutes away from the shelter, she

transforms into a calm, polite and attentive little lady. She will sit

and wait patiently when you ask her to & she crosses her back legs

when I ask her to "sit like a lady" (this only took a few Sunday

mornings of coaching her). She is eager to please and so happy to be in

your company. We sit down together on the lawn at the library in Pelham

and she will just put her head on my lap and stay there peacefully and

is content just to have you near her. Tyra loves to have her belly

rubbed and a good massage will have her dreamy-eyed! She will be a

wonderful companion to anyone lucky enough to bond with her.

Tyra is a bit picky about the people she loves; if you are someone

she wants to be with, you will find no more friendly, fun and smart

little girl than Tyra. She was adopted by a couple a few months ago and

did really well in her new home. Unfortunately the lady who took her got

into some trouble and was sent to jail, so Tyra is back at the shelter.

She really needs a good home; I have a pit-mix named Goldie (adopted

from The Mt Vernon Shelter, March 1st, 2011) plus a sweet cat named Titi

& the limit in my apartment building is two pets per unit, so I

have no way to bring Tyra home. I really wish that I could.

We have a bunch of really cool dogs at the shelter right now. If

Tyra doesn't take your heart right away, someone else there just might.

Hope to see you at The Mt Vernon Animal Shelter, soon.
