HHREC Sponsors Teaching the Holocaust Common Core Course

HHREC Sponsors Teaching the Holocaust Course for Teachers - Professional Development Curricula for Common Core Standards

To help Westchester teachers meet the challenges of the new Common Core State Standards, the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center (HHREC) is sponsoring a free 30-hour professional development course for English and Social Studies teachers beginning October 5th.

The course, which will comprise five sessions to be held at New Rochelle High School on October 5th, 19th, November 2nd and 16th, and on October 27th at the Museum of Jewish Heritage. The course covers strategies for teaching this sensitive subject to Middle and High School students in grades 7 to 12.  Funded by Westchester County, the course covers teaching the Holocaust as a subject within the framework of Common Core and will balance historical information with how to effectively integrate the lessons of the Holocaust and other human rights violations.  Teachers may earn up to two in-service credits.
