Westchester Magazine Celebrates "Best of Westchester 2011"

Westchester residents flocked to Glen Island Harbour Club Wednesday night for Westchester Magazine's annual Best of Westchester Party.

On Wednesday night, Westchester Magazine celebrated the best in dining, arts and entertainment at its annual “Best of Westchester” event at the Glen Island Harbour Club.

Guests enjoyed everything including music, food, spa treatments and even to spray tans.

Each year, Westchester Magazine places the top organizations, restaurants, and companies in the county into eight categories: food & drink, shopping, nightlife, arts & leisure, home, health & beauty, kids, and services. The magazine then chooses awards within those categories, such as “Best Steak” or “Best Facial.”

Winning vendors set up their booths with their foods, products, and services and guests are able to walk around tasting and trying whatever fancies them.

“Normally people think that you need to go to the city, down in Manhattan, to get the best of anything” said Nick Trombetta, owner of Maffei Salon who was voted “Best Hair Colorist of 2011. “And truthfully, there is a lot to be said for what’s going on in Westchester right now.”

Check out what the winners had to say in the video.

Can you get voted to be the best if you don't advertise in the publication? I don't think so.
nancy July 21, 2011 at 05:24 pm
This was the most insanely (not in a good way) organized event I've ever seen. From ling line to get in, the lack of parking, and then lack of presentable food on tables once we actually made it in there, this was HORRIBLE! Do not go next year!

Is there a lot of competition in the "Zen Mommy and Me" group?
J Grenwig July 22, 2011 at 01:14 pm
I don't either.
J Grenwig July 22, 2011 at 01:15 pm
This is a magazine that shows TOTAl bias for the advertisers - how can they call anything the "best" in Westchester - so bogus - no credibility at all.
3007 July 22, 2011 at 02:02 pm
Wow, what strong feelings for fun list of local businesses. Yes, it's not a double-blind experiment, including every single business in all of Westchester county. It is a list of businesses that the publishers think their audience would like. I enjoy learning about new shops and restaurants through these lists. If there were a "best-of" list of businesses that don't advertise in Westchester Magazine, I would be interested in that as well.

They should really call it the best of Southern Westchester. If you're located north of 287 and you don't advertise, then they don't care who you are. It's a shame that the folks with the bigger pockets are getting named 'best of' when smaller, more local businesses are often better.
Class of 74 July 22, 2011 at 03:21 pm
I absolutely agree. I think that maybe they should call it South Westchester magazine and just leave it at that. There is nothing of substance in it. And on the other hand, Hudson Valley magazine leaves out Westchester entirely. I bypass both mags in the doctors' office. Needless to say, neither is worth subscribing to.
Helen July 22, 2011 at 03:26 pm
I agree with Nancy. Awful, awful, awful event! What a rip off! From the traffic to get in, the disorganized parking, having to take a shuttle (even though you could walk), way too many people and vendors, and music so loud you couldn't talk to anyone. Never again!
Heron July 22, 2011 at 03:32 pm
I agree that the smaller, local businesses are often better.
The only trouble with renaming the magazine Southern Westchester is that they don't consider Yonkers and Mount Vernon part of Westchester at all, and these cities are definitely in the southern part of Westchester.. And they also wouldn't want to leave out Chappaqua, Bedford ,Pleasantville and Katonah - those are the communities that they like the most.
M July 23, 2011 at 12:23 pm
Heron - maybe you should read the magazine before you comment. The owners are FROM Yonkers! Yonkers is profiled very frequently.
Blue July 23, 2011 at 12:45 pm
Wow! Way to overthink it!! Its a fluff magazine in the 2nd or 3rd wealthiest county in the US. Its not "non for profit" and the " best of " anything is always up for debate so take it for what it is. If you think there is a need for a magazine that caters to smaller shops in all towns of Westchester then you have a great idea for another magazine!!
Heron July 23, 2011 at 02:41 pm
I have actually bought the magazine on several occasions. I shouldn't be so critical of a magazine that I have, in fact, purchased. Every time I have gotten it, I've been struck by the fact that the "Westchester" in the magazine does not seem the same as the part of Westchester that I live in. Especially when I look at the society events pages and the ads for cosmetic surgery.

Agreed

It seemed to me the key point of moving the City Yard from the waterfront was to open up theRead More waterfront and turn that run down and obsolete yard into a public park overlooking Long Island Sound. The westside site was the most cost effective place to move the yard. Not ideal, but no real alternative has been proposed. I don't think this has much to do with racism. All races can enjoy more of the waterfront. Any development around it will add to our tax base
Martin Sanchez June 12, 2013 at 08:35 am
Ms. Aronow, The issue is that an alternative has been suggested, Ward Acres, as it is much largerRead More and strategically beneficial for the City of New Rochelle. I don't think the recent public discussions has resulted in unanimity in terms of the waterfront being an entirely public venue for all races to enjoy.
