Sombody's Mom: Yorktown Coach Diner

I was planning on meeting my cousin, Patrice, on a Sunday morning at Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park in Yorktown Heights. 

The first thing I did was a search for places to have breakfast in
Yorktown/Yorktown Heights. Mela, my breakfast partner, was willing to take the trip with me, as well as another good friend, Sandy, and stop at the park after breakfast. 

As we were driving to Yorktown, Mela’s sister, Jeannie, called her cell phone.  Jeannie, who lives in South Carolina now, used to live in Katonah. Mela told her we were going to the and Jeannie said she had eaten there and it was good. Nice to know that we picked a place Jeannie liked because she is one tough cookie to please when it comes to eating out.

The first thing I noticed as we slid into a booth at the Yorktown Coach Diner was that each booth had a music jukebox like the old days. Love it! It made our breakfast all the more enjoyable listening to a variety of old and new songs. It really was fun, picking out the music. At three songs for $1, it was an easy, cheap form of entertainment to pass the time while waiting for breakfast to be served.  We actually wanted to stay and play some more music but we were finished and had to go.

The coffee was good and the refill offers were plenty. There was Splenda on the table as well as a bottle of organic ketchup, which was interesting. They served real butter, and real maple syrup was available upon request.

Our waiter, Ivan Croilo, from Peekskill, was funny and fast. He took a lot of questions from me with a smile and was ready for more. We ordered a short stack of silver dollar pancakes and a short stack of French toast, so we could taste both. You rarely see a short stack of French toast, which made for a nice option. Our other dish was spinach, tomato, goat cheese egg white wrap with home fries.

The pancakes were just OK, a bit lacking in flavor. The French toast made up for the pancakes; they were delicious and cooked perfectly, full of flavor and not mushy, the way French toast can sometimes be. We all liked the home fries, with bits of onion and pepper, but just slightly and not overbearing. The egg wrap was a new experience for me. I think I am really a toast person, but I did like the inside. The wrap itself was done well. The spinach was fresh and steamed, not frozen, and the egg whites were fluffy. Mela really enjoyed the wrap. 

Our bill came to $41.59, for 3 people, which is about average.  But what is not average is not every diner has a jukebox in all the booths and that puts Yorktown Coach Diner up there on my list of go to breakfast joints.
