New Rochelle Judaica Shop Highlights Hanukkah

Inspiration Gallery on North Avenue has everything for Hanukkah.

With Hanukkah season in full swing, Inspiration Gallery at 1333 North Ave. is bustling with customers looking for Judaica gifts this Tuesday.

The gifts exchanged during the eight-day celebration of Hanukkah range from religious items to personal gifts, according to Edna Kaye at Inspiration Gallery.

One of the most popular items for children has been a game called Tenzi.

"We've sold hundreds of these," said Kaye. Puzzles and games are popular as well as traditional gifts like gelt.

"One of the most popular gifts is gelt, these gold-wrapped chocolates," Kaye explained. "Giving money was a tradtion. Now we give these candies and also Hanukkah cookies."

Inspirations also has a wide selection of menorah- the nine-candle holder used to mark the eight-day holiday—in media from ceramic to pop art to glass and precious metal.

Another popular item has been Hanukkah-themed paperware. Kaye said many families host large dinners throughout the week and the disposable place settings are a welcome convenience.

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
