The Devonshire Players Perform at the Ossie Davis Theater

An eclectic performance by string ensemble The Devonshire Players.

The all-women string ensemble, The Devonshire Players, enchanted the audience at the Ossie Davis Theater in the Saturday with a set of diverse musical selections. The quartet is comprised of two violinists, Melissa Macy and Sasha Korczynski, violist Lakshmi Thorne and cellist Jessica Elkhatib.

The Devonshire Players drew upon a multitude of musical influences for their first performance of the spring season. They routinely cross genres in their performances, setting no boundaries, ranging from classical chamber music to more current, contemporary music, including classic rock, pop and Broadway tunes.

The quartet began the concert with a rendition of Every Breath You Take by The Police. Next, they took a more traditional approach, playing selections from Dvorak’s String Quartet No. 12, Opus 96 American. The ’80s synth-pop hit, Sweet Dreams are Made of This by the Eurythmics, marked the midpoint of the show. The quartet then took the audience back to the late 1800s, playing “Meditation” from the French opera, Thais, by Jules Massenet. Viva la Vida by Coldplay concluded the performance on a more current note.

Violist and founder of The Devonshire Players, Lakshmi Thorne humbly expressed her gratitude for those who attended the performance. “I want to thank you all for joining us today, I really thought only my mother would show up,” she joked.

Aside from their schedule of concert performances, The Devonshire Players are also available to perform at parties, weddings, professional events and more, as a string quartet, trio, duo or solo performers. The players customize their sets to the specific events that they perform. Each player is professionally accomplished and all teach in addition to performing.
