Free Music, Free Movie, Tennis Anyone?

5 things for the week of July 23, 2012, that you should know about.

1. Tennis Open House
Where/When: 300 Hamilton Ave., New Rochelle, Monday, July 23 at 5:30 p.m.
Why go: Come and play on the beautiful clay courts located at the bottom of 
Hamilton ave in the historic Rochelle Park-Rochelle Heights district. Refreshments will be served.

Pricing: Free.

2. Cross County 2012 Summer Concert Series
Where/When: , 8000 Mall Walk, Yonkers, Tuesday, July 24 at 7 p.m.
Why go: The Cross County Mall summer concert series continues with "Piano Man" Henry Haid, channeling Billy Joel. Guests are invited to bring their blankets and beach chairs to The Green, in the center of the mall, to enjoy some of the tri-state area's best bands performing live.
Pricing: Free. 

3. John Glover and the American Revolution
Where/When: St. Paul's Church, 897 S Columbus Ave., Mount Vernon, Wednesday, July 25 at 1 p.m.
Why go: Hear a talk exploring the life and times of John Glover, who led troops in a battle near St. Paul’s Church and directed the legendary crossing of the Delaware River at Christmas 1776 before the attack on Trenton. Refreshments will be provided. 
Pricing: Free. 

4. Family Film Frenzy Presents Cars
Where/When: , Weyman Avenue, New Rochelle, Wednesday, July 25 at 7 p.m.
Why go: The Family Film Frenzy series at Westchester County Parks continues with a showing of Cars (2006, rated G) at Glen Island Beach Wednesday. The rain date is Thursday, July 26. The after-hours festivities offer an outdoor movie and swimming, which is permitted during daylight hours only. The park opens at 7 p.m. The movie begins at sundown. Bring picnic or purcase food at the concession stand. Bring blankets and chairs for seating. A Westchester Park Pass is not required for admission.
Pricing: $5; free for children under 5. 

5. Kosher Wine Fair and Free Tasting
Where/When: , 8 Joyce Rd., New Rochelle, Thursday, July 26 at 2 p.m
Why go: Come by and check out our kosher wine selection of over 500 labels. Winemaster Andre Cohen will be on site. Wine classes are available.
Pricing: Free.

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
