The sounds of jazz will be wafting over New Rochelle's downtown beginning Friday and continuing through Sunday.
The New Rochelle Jazz Festival returns for its third year with free performances on Library Green from noon to dusk on Saturday and Sunday.
Technical Director Ross May said the festival is part of a month-long Jazz in July program, which has evenst around the Sound Shore.
"Our focus for the jazz festival is New Rochelle," he said. "We went from being an agency that placed jazz bands in local venues to making a list of jazz events that are happening all over New Rochelle and other places."
May said the kickoff event will be Jazz Night in New Rochelle, live jazz performances at some of the festival's business partners Friday evening, including , and .

Fast signup here.Performers on Saturday include the Brian Carter Quartet, guitarist Gil Parris and legendary jazz trumpeter Eddie Henderson. Carter, who lives in New Rochelle, is also one of the festival's organizers.
Sunday's lineup includes local band Avalanche, Grammy-nominated artist Aaron Brown and Moments Notice and Women in Jazz 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award-winner flutist Bobbi Humphrey.
"We have a good representation of jazz, as we have had in the past," May said. "We employ a broad definition of jazz," to include Dixieland and barbershop.
"It really is something for everyone," he said.
