Movies for Free or $1: Westchester Theaters Offer Discounted Summer Flicks

More than 350 Regal Cinemas around the country will offer $1 movies on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Taking the family to a movie these days can break the bank. Between tickets, popcorn and drinks, it can cost a chunk of change.

Now you have a chance to take the kids to see a movie on the big screen without shelling out too much dough. Regal Entertainment Group, which includes theaters in New Rochelle and Nanuet, is hosting Summer Movie Express.

Tickets to the movies are $1. Movies are screened Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Movies to be screened include: Despicable Me 2, The Lego Movie, Kung Fu Panda 2, The Croods, Rio 2 and more.

Bowtie Cinemas - with theaters in Bronxville, Larchmont, White Plains, Bedford and Mount Kisco - does one better with free movies on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. The chain is offering some of the same films as Regal; click here to see area Bowtie locations. 

More than 350 Regal cinemas around the country are offering Summer Movie Express. Participating theaters in the area are the Regal New Roc Stadium 18 and the Regal Nanuet Stadium 12.

Tickets for Summer Movie Express films must be purchased at the theater. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Will Rogers Institute.

"Many families make this a summer tradition and look forward to our announcement of the long list of fun movies coming their way. And for Regal, this helps us instill that love of moviegoing in another generation," said Ken Thewes, chief marketing officer at Regal Entertainment Group. "The titles this year appeal to a diverse group of tastes, and we know there is a little bit of something for everyone."
