This free event was made possible by the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library.

Families and friends visited the Ossie Davis Theater at the New Rochelle Public Library Thursday to watch The Magic and Comedy of Jim McClenahan.

McClenahan is a well-known magician and comedian in the New York area and has performed at day camps, libraries, elementary schools and amusement parks.

He has been coming to the New Rochelle library since 2005, and McClenahan is always welcomed by a full house.

“My success is due to the wonderful audience who always enjoy my performances,” said McClenahan.

Audience member Lucas Hartley, 7, of New Rochelle, had the opportunity to assist McClenahan with his magic tricks on stage.

“It was pretty cool,” said Hartley describing his experience with McClenahan.

There are certain approaches that McClenahan takes to create a successful event. It is important for him make the show educational in addition to being fun for the kids.

McClenahan also said that he greets the children before coming into the theater so they get to know his character.

Barbara Davis, the library’s community relations manager, calls McClenahan her “keeper” because whenever she refers him to someone, Davis insists that she gets him first.
