Israel Film, Cemetery Tour and Opera Singers

1. Spousal Loss Support Group
Where/When: 670 White Plains Rd., Scarsdale, Monday, Aug. 6 at 2:30 p.m.
Why go: Open to anyone who have lost a spouse or life partner, these afternoon Group Sessions are offered at no charge and meet on consecutive Mondays. For more information, please contact Didi Marcal at 914-961-2818 ext 355.

2. Summer Israel Film Series
Where/When: , 1324 North Ave., New Rochelle, Monday, Aug. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
Why go: The last installment of the Summer Israel Film Series featuring three award winning short films from The Ma'aleh School of Television, Film & the Arts Jerusalem Israel. The films are The Divide (HaMavdil); The Shabbat Mother (Ema Shel Shabbat) and The Orthodox Way (Hok HaDatiim HaSheluvim). Admission price include movie refreshments. All films are in Hebrew with subtitles.
Pricing: $7.

3. Cross County 2012 Summer Concert Series
Where/When: , 8000 Mall Walk, Yonkers, Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 7 p.m.
Why go: The Cross County Mall summer concert series continues with The Nerds, a rock 'n roll cover band. Guests are invited to bring their blankets and beach chairs to The Green, in the center of the mall, to enjoy some of the tri-state area's best bands performing live.
Pricing: Free.

4. Twilight Tours of the Pet Cemetery in Hartsdale
Where/When: 300 E Main St., Elmsford, Wednesday, Aug. 8 at 6:30 p.m.
Why go: If you have a teen, they can celebrate "Own the Night" with a special behind-the-scenes tour of the Pet Cemetery in Hartsdale. Limited to 20 participants, they must be willing to meet at the cemetery and be on time. Call 721-8224 or email greenteen@greenburghlibrary.org.

5. Emil Paolucci Summer Sounds Concert Series
Where/When: , 94 Hudson Pk. Rd., Wednesday, Aug. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
Why go: The next Emil Paolucci Summer Sounds Concert Series at Hudson Park presents four singers from the New Rochelle Opera. The concert series, which features an eclectic menu of free music on eight consecutive Wednesdays in July and August, is presented by the New Rochelle Council on the Arts, in partnership with the New Rochelle Dept. of Parks and Recreation, and sponsored by Webster Bank.
Pricing: Free.

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
