Why Go: Recommended for ages 9 and up, this 2008 film is based on The Ramayana of Valmiki. Using vividly stylized, almost luminescent colors, this film combines various styles of animation, drawing on sources as varied as Hindu artworks, bold quasi-art nouveau abstractions and post-Betty Boop song and dance routines.

Why Go: Puppeteer Jill Liflander and her felt friends will perform a musical performance examining the nuances of day-to-day farm life.

4. Children of Eden 
Where/When: The Westchester Sandbox Theater, 931c, E. Boston Post Rd., Mamaroneck, Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 21 and 22, 3 p.m.
Why Go: Come and enjoy Stephen Schwartz’s biblical musical Children of Eden, performed by the Young People’s Theater teen troupe of Westchester. Classic Biblical tales of Adam and Eve and Noah and his ark are brought to life in this theatrical production.

5. Winter Owl Prowl
Where/When: , 895 Shore Rd., Bronx, Sunday, Jan. 22, 4:30 p.m.
Why Go: Dr. Robert DeCandido, a.k.a. "Birding Bob," asnwers every conceivable question about owls, including what types are seen most commonly during the winter months. Birding Bob will attempt to coax the feathered creatures from the treetops while you are sipping hot chocolate.
