Get Out Weekend Planner: Taste of Port Chester, Hudson River Cleanup and Andrew Jackson

Things to put in your calendar for the upcoming weekend.

1. Westchester Glee Chorus to Hold First Concert
Where/When: , 430 North St., White Plains, Friday, June 1 at 7 p.m.
Why go: Now that Glee is in reruns, Gleeks can get their show-choir fix with the newly formed youth choir Westchester Glee Chorus performing numbers by Coldplay, Kelly Clarkston, Sara Bareilles, Adele, Carrie Underwood, Natasha Bedingfield and many other popular artists and Broadway composers. Students are from White Plains High School, North Salem High School, Highlands Middle School and Our Lady of Sorrows School.

Pricing: Free, but suggested donations of $5 for students or $10 for adults will go toward student scholarships.

2. 
Where/When: , 931c E. Boston Post Rd., Mamaroneck, Friday, June 1 at 8 p.m., Saturday, June 2 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Why go: The New York regional premiere of the musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson looks at our nation’s seventh president as if he's a rock star. Music and lyrics were written by Michael Friedman.
Pricing: $20 in advance; $25 at the door. 

3. Sculpture Garden Tour at Wildcliff
Where/When: , 44 Wildcliff Rd., New Rochelle, Saturday, June 2, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
Why go: The Sculpture Garden at Wildcliff is open to public on Saturdays. Featured artists are B.A. D'Alessandro, Bernard Rowan, Jodi Carlson and Denis Folz. More sculptures will be arriving this summer.
Pricing: Free. 

4. Riverkeeper Sweep Party
Where/When: , Secor Rd. & Westerly Rd., Ossining, Saturday, June 2 at 3 p.m.
Why go: The Riverkeeper Sweep is one day of service for the Hudson River. On June 2, volunteers are organizing cleanups and other service projects throughout Hudson River region. The day of service on June 2 culminates with an evening of celebration on the Ossining waterfront
Pricing: Free. 

5. A Taste of Port Chester
Where/When: Port Chester Marina, Abendroth Ave. & Westchester Ave., Port Chester, Sunday, June 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Why go: Sample chef's specialties from restaurants throughout Port Chester. Tickets can be purchased in advance or on the day of at the marina. For a list of particiating restaurants, go here.
Pricing: $25 in advance; $30, day of event.

It seemed to me the key point of moving the City Yard from the waterfront was to open up theRead More waterfront and turn that run down and obsolete yard into a public park overlooking Long Island Sound. The westside site was the most cost effective place to move the yard. Not ideal, but no real alternative has been proposed. I don't think this has much to do with racism. All races can enjoy more of the waterfront. Any development around it will add to our tax base

I don't think the recent public discussions has resulted in unanimity in terms of the waterfront being an entirely public venue for all races to enjoy.
