Get Out Weekend Planner: Ballet, Birds and Bowls

Dancing and song are a couple of the highlights during this first weekend of 2012.

1. Saw Mill River Audubon Field Trip: Croton Point Eagles
Where/When: Croton Point Park; meet at the Croton River boat ramp on Croton Point Ave., Croton-on-Hudson, Saturday, Jan. 7, 9 a.m.
Why Go: An annual tradition continues with this popular birding walk led by Charlie Roberto. Good for ages 6 and up. Registration is recommended, 914-666-6503.

Why Go: Unleash your inner artist! Come and create your own unique bowl that will then be glazed, fired and sold at the Empty Bowls event to raise hunger awareness.

Why Go: The premier classical Chinese dance company will be giving a preview performance of 5,000 years of Chinese music and dance. Registration is required, 914 698-1250.

4.  Friends & Family Cabaret 
Where/When
: , Major Bowes Auditorium, 950 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, Saturday, Jan. 7. Doors open at 7 p.m., curtain rises at 8 p.m. 
Why Go: Family and friends of members of Archbishop Stepinac High School’s celebrated Drama Club will gather on Saturday for the 8th Annual Stepinac Family & Friends Cabaret. Admission includes a pre-show cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres and dessert.
Pricing: $25, $20, students and seniors.

5. Where/When: , 168 Irving Place, Port Chester. Ongoing through Jan. 31. Gallery hours by appointment.
Why Go: Eline de Jonge is an award-winning, internationally exhibiting artist in Europe and the United States. In this solo art show, her paintings depict the effects of bright and sunny days on people and buildings and their shadows and movement.
