Westchester Chamber Symphony Family Concert

A rare two-piano performance of Mozart’s Concerto for Three Pianos, no. 7, K. 242, will be the centerpiece of the Westchester Chamber Symphony’s concert on Sat., Feb. 4, 2012 at 7 p.m. at Iona College’s Christopher J. Murphy Auditorium.

Pianists Alon Goldstein and Lucille Chung will play Mozart's own arrangement of this work. According to Goldstein, after composing the three-piano piece for a countess who wanted to play it with her two daughters, Mozart rearranged it for two pianos so he could play it himself with another pianist. It is this version for two pianos that Goldstein and Chung will perform. The so-called “Triple Concerto” is rarely played because of the difficulty of getting three pianos, says Goldstein, who performed it for his Carnegie Hall debut in 2009.

Last appearing with the WCS in 2010, Goldstein’s recent seasons have included his debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and appearances with the Vermont and Santa Barbara Symphonies and at recitals and concerts in Beijing, Guatemala City, Kent (UK), Chicago, Los Angeles, Coral Gables, Seattle, St. Paul, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Paris, among others.

Her numerous awards include First Prize at the Stravinsky International Piano Competition and Second Prize at the International Franz Liszt Competition.

Conducted by WCS founder and artistic director Barry Hoffman, this concert also includes Mozart's Overture -  La Finta Giardiniera, K. 196, and Saint-Saens’ Carnival of the Animals, narrated by Robert Sherman. In addition, there will be the annual Composers of the Future showcase of student compositions, a collaboration with the Songcatchers after-school program.
