The gorgeous sounds of classic opera and operetta – along with some Broadway favorites – will fill the air at Hudson Park on Wednesday night as the Emil Paolucci Summer Sounds Concert Series continues. The free concert begins at 7:30 pm at the Hudson Park Bandshell.

The concert series, which features an eclectic menu of free music on eight consecutive Wednesdays in July and August, is presented by the New Rochelle Council on the Arts, in partnership with the New Rochelle Dept. of Parks and Recreation, and sponsored by Webster Bank. Additional support is being provided by Metro Med, which is helping to underwrite the August 8th  concert by New Rochelle Opera. For more information visit the NRCA website at www.newrochellearts.org or telephone the Dept. of Parks and Recreation at 654-2087.

Despite the drought out west, rainy weather has led to the re-scheduling of two of the Summer Sounds Concert Series performances: The Virgil Scott 17 Piece Big Band, which was originally scheduled to play August 1st, will appear instead on Monday, August 20th , with music from the big band era featuring guest soloist tenor saxophonist Bobby Lavell, a current player with the Duke Ellington Orchestra. And 3D Rimo de Vida, which was rained out on July 18th, will play at Hudson Park on Wednesday, September 5th.

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
