The College of New Rochelle’s (CNR) 40th annual Strawberry Festival has something special for family members of all ages. On Sunday, May 6, 2012 from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on CNR’s Main Campus at 29 Castle Place in New Rochelle, the College will host a fun-filled day of outdoor activities, music, entertainment, and strawberry treats. Admission is free; there is a charge for food, games, and rides.  The rain location is The Wellness Center.

A photo booth where visitors can take pictures will be present this year, as well as the exciting giant slide. There will be face painting, giant checkers, a dunk tank, gladiator joust, castle bounce house, sand art necklaces, and much more.

Fourth Generation will provide music ranging from oldies but goodies to Top 100 pop songs. Vendors displaying jewelry and other craft items will be on hand to satisfy shoppers and browsers alike. Other entertainment will include performances by CNR’s Black Ice Step Team, Gospel Choir, and Blue Angels Cheerleaders, as well as CNR’s tap, belly dancing, and hip hop classes. Refreshments for sale will include chocolate-covered strawberries, strawberry slushies, and strawberry shortcake, as well as hot dogs, hamburgers, cotton candy, popcorn, and snow cones.

The Strawberry Festival, introduced to CNR in 1972, is the single largest event organized entirely by the College’s undergraduates. The concept of the Strawberry Festival originated in the mid-west during the 1890’s as an American festival celebrating the ripening of strawberries, the blooming of lilacs, and the coming of summer.

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
