AP Art Exhibit

Works created by students in the Advanced Placement Studio Art program at New Rochelle High School are on exhibit at the Museum of Arts & Culture from February 14th  through March 4th, with an artists’ reception at the MAC on March 1 st. The students who are exhibiting their work are Noelia Abreu, Sarah Aftergood, Sarah Bedrick, Eli Bornstein, Karen Castaneda, Nicole Csenge, Cielie Feuga, Kelsey Francella,  Carlo Gabriele, Dylan Gray,  Alicia Heinemann, Nicole Itzkowitz, Danielle Kleinman, Mackenzie Lipman, Sean McCann, Jeremy Ornstein, Charles Prioleau, Amanda Reid, CJ Senerchia, David Stahl and Victoria Stoerger. New Rochelle High School art teachers Scott Seaboldt and Joanna Schomber are coordinating the exhibit.

The Advanced Placement (AP) program is administered nationally by the College Board; New Rochelle High School offers 27 AP courses, with AP Studio Art designed for students who are seriously interested in the practical experience of art. AP Studio Art is not based on a written exam; instead, students submit portfolios for evaluation at the end of the school year. In this way AP Studio Art sets a national standard for performance in the visual arts, with thousands of portfolios submitted each year for review by college, university, and secondary school art instructors using rigorous standards. There are three “portfolios”: Drawing (including painting, printmaking, and mixed media), Two-Dimensional Design (including but not limited to graphic design, typography, digital imaging, photography, collage, fabric design, weaving, illustration, painting, printmaking), and Three-Dimensional Design (including traditional sculpture, architectural models, apparel, ceramics, three-dimensional fiber arts or metal work).

The AP Art exhibit will be open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM, and Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7 PM to 9 PM. The Museum of Arts & Culture is located in the new wing of New Rochelle High School, off North Avenue at Braemer Avenue. For more information about the Museum, or to book a group visit, contact Theresa Kump Leghorn, Director, at 576-6518.
