ArtsFest Continues in New Rochelle, Pelham

The fourth ArtsFest has expanded to include venues in Pelham.

The New Rochelle ArtsFest 2012 kicked off Saturday with performances, exhibitions, displays and food. This year, the arts festival was expanded to include venues in Pelham, including the Pelham Art Center and the Pelham Picture House.

Two trolleys made frequent stops all around New Rochelle and into Pelham ushering to galleries, workshops, performances and art studios open to the public for during the festival.

Councilman Ivar Hyden, owner of the Backstreet Gallery on Lawton Street showcased works by New Rochelle artists. He was eager to open his doors to the public, even providing musical entertainment by violinist Emma Carleton, a New Rochelle resident and Westchester Community College Student.

The New Rochelle Public Library and New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District provided circus performers who entertained people on Main Street. The performers were stilt walker/juggler Greg Milstein, juggler/comedian Renaldo and clown Lil Lou.

Among the myriad other activities on Saturday was an exhibit at AJ's Burgers of Photos of Life in New Rochelle from the upcoming book 10-10-10 and a classic car show, co-sponsored by AJ's Burgers and New Rochelle Chevrolet.

Author Linda Tarrant-Reid autographed copies of her latest book Discovering Black America at the Lincoln Avenue Arts & Culture Fest in Lincoln Park. That venue also included a garden tour, drumming and a cultural marketplace.
