Winter Storm 2014: Cancellations and Closings in New Rochelle

Here are some of the cancellations and closing in New Rochelle received by New Rochelle Patch.

• Due to the snows storm and the cold weather expected this evening, the YMCA will close at 5 p.m. tonight, January 3, to allow YMCA members and staff to get home safely. The YMCA will open on Saturday January 4th at 6 a.m. with regular hours. 

• Bee-Line buses and Paratransit service will resume at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Riders are told that delays can be expected.
 
• Both branches of the New Rochelle Public Library will be closed Friday, January 3.

• The YMCA in New Rochelle will have a delayed opening at 10 a.m. Friday, January 3. If the snow storm is as severe as expected and the roads are closed tomorrow, another email update will be sent to the YMCA family. Please continue to check the YMCA website for updates. The will be NO UPK class on Friday, January 3—both a.m. and p.m. classes. If New Rochelle closes schools on Friday, there will be no after-school.

• South End garbage and recycling collection scheduled for Friday, January 3 has been cancelled. Normal collection will resume next week. The next commingled recycling pickup will be January 15.

• As flooding is possible during tonight’s high tide expected at around 11:30 p.m., residents in low lying areas are advised to take appropriate precautions.

• Residents are asked to please assist the Fire Department by shoveling out snow around the hydrants near their home.

• Where possible, cars should be removed from street parking to facilitate plowing.

• In the case of power outages, please call Con Edison directly at 1-800- CON ED (1-800-752-6633).

• The Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library Book Sale that was scheduled for January 3rd and January 4th will instead be held on Friday January 10th and Saturday, January 11th. The sale will take place in the library lobby from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Due to the predicted inclement weather, the Hugh A. Doyle Senior Center in New Rochelle will be closed on Friday, January 3 and Saturday, January 4. All senior programs are cancelled including the rescheduled holiday party January 4. Party reservations will be refunded or credited to accounts. • The offices of the New Rochelle School District will be closed Friday, January 3. Classes will not be in session until Monday, January 6.

• Iona College will close at 4 p.m. Thursday, January 2. Evening classes Thursday are cancelled. The college will remain closed Friday, January 3.
