'Walk of Fame' to Be Dedicated Saturday in New Rochelle

Twenty-five famous New Rochelle residents will be honored.

What do Woody Woodpecker and Lou Gehrig have in common?

The cartoon character's creator—Walter Lantz—and the baseball legend will be two of 25 famous New Rochelleans who will be honored Saturday when the "Walk of Fame" is unveiled.

The ceremony, which will take place at 1 p.m. in the Ossie Davis Park at Library Green, will pay tribute to people in the arts, business, politics, education, the media, entertainment and sports.

In case of rain, the ceremony will be held in the New Rochelle Public Library's Ossie Davis Theater.

Honorees' families and local officials have been invited to the unveiling.

Each inductee will have a 20-inch-by-14-inch full-color historical interpretive sign telling the inductee's story.

The inauguration will be followed by a slide presentation on "Great Notables of New Rochelle" by City Historian Barbara Davis. It will be held at 2 p.m. in the Ossie Davis Theater.
