New Rochelle and the rest of the Sound Shore might be looking at over 8 inches of snow when all is said and done Saturday morning.
The National Weather Service has wintry weather in the forecast beginning Thursday night and then intensifying Friday night.
As of Thursday morning's forecast, the weather service said snow is likely Thursday night, mainly after 3 a.m. Overnight temperatures will be around 28, with an east wind around 6 to 8 mph. New snow accumulation of less than 1 inch is possible.
For Friday, the forecast calls for snow before 9 a.m, with rain and snow between 9 a.m. and noon. After noon, it will be rain only. Rain and snow could be heavy at times. The high will be around 39. Winds will be from the east 9 to 15 mph, with up to 26 mph gusts. Only a half inch of new snow is possible.
A winter storm watch is in effect from Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon.
Friday night is when the forecast gets interesting.
The NWS is calling for rain before 9 p.m. Friday, then snow. Both the rain and snow could be heavy at times, with winds from the north 20 to 26 mph and gusts up to 55 mph.
New snow accumulation could be between 5 and 9 inches.
Snow is likely Saturday, along with areas of blowing snow, before 9 a.m. Between 9 a.m. and noon, there is a chance of snow. Otherwise, it will be partly sunny with a high near 33. Winds will continue, this time from the northwest 21 to 28 mph, with gusts as high as 47 mph.
After a Saturday night, with a low around 14, Sunday will warm up to a high near 36 under sunny skies.
