New Rochelle Sept. 11 Ceremonies Scheduled

Events will be held at Barnard School, Iona College and the American Legion.

In addition to the 9/11 Memorial and Candlelight Service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion, sponsored by the United Veterans Memorial & Patriotic Association of New Rochelle, there will be two other events marking the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

At at noon, there will be a ceremony in remembrance of Iona alumni who died in the disaster. It will be held in Memorial Park in front of Ryan Library. The families of deceased alumni who perished on 9/11 have also been invited to attend. This event is open to the public.

Barnard Early Childhood Center in New Rochelle will hold its 11th Anniversary 9/11 Memorial Ceremony and Brick Unveiling at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Amy's Greenhouse is a living memorial to Amy O'Doherty, who perished at the age of 23 on September 11th, 2001 at the World Trade Center.  Amy was the daughter of Geraldine Davie, a since retired teacher at Barnard Early Childhood Center. Barnard is located at 129 Barnard Rd. I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
