New Rochelle Throw Itself a Celebratory Street Fair

Organizers hope to make the street fair an annual event.

Main Street in New Rochelle was swarming with people—not cars—Sunday during a street fair celebrating the city's 325th anniversary.

Produced by StreetFairs.org, in partnership with with 325th Anniversary Committee and the City of New Rochelle, the fair featured bouncy rooms, classic cars, food, arts and crafts and live entertainment.

Committee Chairwoman Marianne Sussman was thrilled with the turnout.

"We have so many people here who have come out to see the booths and to walk on Main Street," she said. "It is a great pleasure to see our community come together and enjoy a beautiful day in New Rochelle."

Sussman said she hoped that this event might set a precedent.

"The 325th won't be in effect next year," she said, "but there is a sentiment that I've heard from some of the vendors and the public that they would love to have an annual event like this. So I hope we can have it year after year."

The fair took place between Centre and North avenues.
