New Rochelle Seniors Enjoy a Day in the Park

People seemed to have fun in spite of the soaring temperatures at Five Islands Park.

In spite of soaring temperatures and very little breeze, members of the Hugh A. Doyle Senior Center in New Rochelle enjoyed an outing Wednesday to Five Islands Park.

Office for the Aging Executive Director Phillis Maucieri said it was an annual event for the seniors.

"We almost postponed it because of the heat, but the seniors all wanted it to go on," she said.

About 120 people signed up for the outdoor event, Maucieri said.

The seniors were served a box lunch and then were treated to an exercise session led by Offut Porter.

The seniors wisely chose to stay in the relative comfort of the shade trees.

Maucieri said they would also have entertainment and take a walking tour of the other parts of the park.
