'Name a Seat' Fundraiser Benefits Library Foundation

The newly refurbished Ossie Davis Theater will have personalized nameplates on some of its new seats.

Take a seat. Well, really, name a seat.

For the next six months, individuals, social and community groups and businesses can buy naming rights to one of the new seats being installed in the  Ossie Davis Theater or be recognized by naming one of the library vestibules.

The New Rochelle Public Library Foundation’s “Name-a-Seat” Fundraiser will give donors the opportunity to support the arts with a personalized nameplate on one of the new seats.

“The Ossie Davis Theater offers hundreds of cultural events every year,” said Dr. Cheryl Archbald, co-chair of the New Rochelle Public Library Foundation fundraising committee, “and this is a wonderful opportunity for PTAs, neighborhood associations and other community and civic groups that represent our diverse community to support the arts and be represented in one of the city’s most valued cultural centers.”

The refurbished theater has 138 seats in 10 rows, with 124 seat available for naming.

Seats in the fifth through 10th rows can be “purchased” for $300. A donation of $1,000 will allow someone to name one of the seats in the second through fourth rows. The nameplates can contain up to three lines of 27 characters each, including punctuation and spaces.

“Perhaps 30 members of a scout troop, book club or sports team will each contribute $10 to name a seat, or a graduating senior class will name a seat as a class gift or as a way to show their appreciation for a favorite teacher,” suggested Dr. Archbald.

Donations and seat selection can be made electronically at nrplfoundation.org/ossiedavistheater. Entire rows can be named at a discounted rate, or donors can be recognized on plaques inside the theater.

For more information on those naming opportunities contact Betsy Kravitz, co-chair of the NRPL Foundation fundraising committee, at bmk926@aol.com or call the NRPL Foundation at 914-632-7878, ext. 1600 or email info@nrplfoundation.org.

I think it's great that Pamela Davis stepped up to run and I would be glad to vote for her any otherRead More year. But this year we have one of New Rochelle's most dedicated and knowledgeable activists running. Bob Cox knows New Rochelle and the school district inside and out. I'm not sure the same can be said for Pam Davis. If you want someone who already knows where the wasteful spending is, and already knows the district's strengths and weaknesses, then Bob Cox is the person. Who cares how congenial he is? Where some people see anger and finger-pointing, others see tenacity and accountability.
