Hounds Walk the Sound, Raise Money [VIDEO]

The fourth annual fundraiser benefits the New Rochelle Humane Society, Pet Rescue of Larchmont and the Mount Vernon Animal Shelter.

About 500 dogs and about one thousand people who love them took part in the fourth annual Hounds on the Sound Dog Walkathon and Festival at Glen Island Park Sunday.

Heim said the money raised is sorely needed by the New Rochelle Humane Society, Pet Rescue of Larchmont and the Mount Vernon Animal Shelter and will be used for food, veterinarian services and staff costs.

Phil Reisman, columnist at the Journal News acted as master of ceremonies. He said it was people's responsibility to speak for animal who cannot speak for themselves.

It's a beautiful day to further such a  wonderful cause," Reisman said, reminding the crowd that it was their responsibility to speak for those who cannot speak.

Before and after the walkathon, dogs and their humans could get food, buy baked goods from Girl Scouts, browse the vendors and see agility demonstrations.
